Doodles 3

Here are some more.  I'll upload the rest of them soon.

Doodles 2

My second batch of sketches.  I tried exploring as many things as I could think of.

Doodles 1

Sketches done over a period of years, exploring a number of ideas that 'could' have the potential to expand.

Weapon Testing - Commander Speaks

This will be the first time you hear any form of speaking from a character in this short film.  In this shot, the commander arrives at the door and begins to knock not realising that when he is higher in the command chain, he doesn't need to.  So he tells jeffery in a posh german voice to open the door otherwise he will shoot his brains out.  The viewers first thoughts would be that he is spoiled and has no right to command, but wait until you hear his commanding voice to his soldiers, then the men waiting inside will fear him.

Weapons Testing - Opening Credits

I am not using this for any commercial use. The music is not mine.  However, the names you see in this introduction video to my Weapons Testing film are mine.  I am eager to see this short film through once it is complete.  All form of music or sound effects are used to further explain and set the mood of the story.  When I come to a employer, I will only be using this piece of art to show my skills, it will not be to profit out of this in any way.

Don't Fear the Door 'coloured test'

I have played this on repeat for three times, so the viewers can take in the reactions of the postman.  All the content in this video has been designed and animated by me.  I consider everything I do as a test for now.

Don't Fear the Door (End scene storyboard)

Here is a short description of this storyboard:

The Doorknob stretches out to come face to face with a frightened postman and whispers 'boo'.  The the postman runs down the street in a scared manner, leaving the doorknob laughing as he runs.  Then suddenly a fly lands on the doorknob and he screams to the camera.  (End scene)

Don't Fear the Door (Original shot)

I have here the orginal take on what could have happened in this camera shot with the doorknob.  However, after some brainstorming with friends, I have found the previous test to be more fun to watch.  (All animation is a work in progress and could be scheduled to change at any time)

Don't Fear the Door 'New Shot'

Here is a test for my Don't Fear the Door piece.  I have a rough storyboard already digitally designed with simple shapes symbolising the characters and their actions.  However, I have only visualised the end of the story so far.  I am still unsure how to begin it.

Don't Fear the Door (still images)

These two represent two possible story paths for my Don't Fear the Door cartoon I am currently developing.  The basic story for this piece is as follows:

The Postman like every day except a Sunday comes and delivers post to their estates.  But what the postman doesn't realise is that this house is protecting soe vauable things inside, and so the doorknob acts as a guardian.  So it tries to scare away the postman and in the end is successful.  Then a fly lands on the doorknobs nose and screams.  The door might act all fierce and powerful to outsiders, but in the end it is just as scared as everyone else.

Weapons Testing part 3

I plan on having the bullet shot where you see nothing but the ground stretch for a few more frames than just 2.  I want to give the impression that the tank isn't shooting from 5 metres away but 50.

Weapons Testing part 2

I have tried as hard as I can to think outside the box as much as possible to make this funny.  The story for Weapon's Testing is as follows:

The Army is testing their latest Tank to see how powerful it is. The Tank shows great destruction to such objects as a wooden wall, a brick house etc.  Then to finish the final test, it fires at a soldier to see how damaging it can be.  I may be wording the story wrong but, in the end - the Tank may take out soulless objects, but when it goes against a soldier, then it is useless. Basically 'HUMANS' are better and stronger in spirit than machines.  I class everything as a work in progress.

Weapons Testing

This is the first real project I have begun working on since my time in university.  I am enjoying every moment of this piece.  I can't wait for it to be complete.  As of today, this would be my fifth day working on this project.  I know some of the drawings may be missing a few objects, but they'll be filled in soon.  I'm focusing on the animation for now.

Dog House

This is my first attempt at using the colouring tools on Adobe Photoshop.  I feel I'm getting the idea of how it works.  I just need to explore more pieces of art work whilst trying to give that impression of realism.

Heavens Closed on Sundays

I wanted to do this piece for a while now.  I may even try one day to make the story behind this painting into an animated short film.  Basically the story is this man dies and he arrives at Heavens Gate, waiting for them to open so he can rest for enternity, but a sign says that Heaven is closed on Sundays, which a place like Heaven should never be closed for any reason.  So the man in the picture cries to God to open the door, but God doesn't do what he asks, so God offers some wood and tools, and then he has to build his own 'Stairway to Heaven', or wait until Monday when it opens again.  Overall, the story would be really funny to watch.  It could be done in any form of Animation - Stop Motion, 2D, 3D etc. I'll look into it soon.

House on a stick

I thought of doing something like this today, so I drew it, uploaded it onto ToonBoom and proceeded to digitally colour it in.  I probably should have added in clouds but I can always do that next time.

The Voodoo's

Meet the Voodoo's.  I wanted to play with proportion and colours with each of them to try and make them unique.  All of this was completed on ToonBoom Animate.

Voodoo Leader

I wanted to begin designing a Voodoo doll for my portfolio and then I decided he would look better with more of them with a background.  I have recently uploaded only my digital work on DeviantArt.com and people have already added certain pieces as their favourites.  I'm moving up in the world for being noticed and I like where I'm at.

Saturday, 2 March 2013

I have decided to learn from a master in the industry which has been doing his job for over 40 years.  I bought Tony White's trilogy animation book collection to help with my skills and to biuld upon what I learnt from my first year in university.  The first assignment by the great Mr. White is a 'Pendulum swinging'. This is only a test.

Meet Jerry Hines

I have always loved the horror classic monster stories, from Dracula to Wolfman.  I wanted to take inspiration from the famous Dr Jykll and Mr Hyde story.  I am experimenting with silhouettes first, then initial facial features and clothing will be developed soon.

Possible Ideas

I have been wanting to develop a prison for a concept I'm working on.  This is purely colour experimentation.

I just started something and then began to develop a graveyard scene.  I could use it for anything I want, but what?

What I have here are just a few ideas I have been working on over the past few weeks.  I have yet to decide what I could develop further, and would go no further.  All of these designs were hand-drawn and then digitally coloured on ToonBoom Animate.  My colouring and shading skills will develop, I promise you.

Welcome

Hello and welcome to my world.  My name is Joshua James Mitchell-Taylor.  My goal is to someday have my own animation company, that focuses on bringing joy and laughter to audiences around the world.  But first I'd like to start by just showing all of you what I can do.  I hope you enjoy.
